Water Resilience Tracker

The Water Resilience Tracker is a tool and diagnostic guide to help countries self-assess and enhance water resilience in their national climate planning. Countries around the world are developing climate plans — including Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans — to meet commitments of the Paris Agreement and address climate impacts. In recent years, these plans have demonstrated significant progress towards climate action, but they typically neglect the strategic role of water in climate solutions.

As a component of the Just Transitions for Water Security program, the Water Resilience Tracker for National Climate Planning will provide policy and technical assistance to increase political leadership, cooperation, and capacities across ministries and geographies to facilitate the design and implementation of inclusive, water resilient development plans, policies, programs, and projects.

The Tracker will assess water use, allocation and tradeoffs in multiple sectors and planning instruments, ensuring that plans are robust, flexible and able to withstand the impacts of climate change. This knowledge will be used to influence and guide decision making around water and climate. The integration of the Tracker within user sector agencies is expected to encourage silo-busting and greater interactions amongst these sector agencies to identify common ground and meeting points around water, leading to more equitable and sustainable use and management of water as a resource, and enhance pathways for long-term water security.
