Towards climate resilient inclusive water supply services in rural Nepal
Climate Change will affect Nepal’s water sector adversely through changes in precipitation and flooding. More efforts are needed in to institutionalize Water, Sanitation and Hygiene gains in support of vulnerable communities. The Netherlands development organization, SNV proposes a two year transition project to increase the adaptive capacity of 30,000 people with a desired budget of 2 million AUD and focus on institutionalization to create systemic change in four rural municipalities in the districts of Dailekh and Sarlahi. SNV, local and knowledge partners, the Christian Blind Mission, University of Technology Sydney – Institute for Sustainable Futures and IWMI will build on the established conducive working relationships and develop a successful approach by supporting local government and service providers in combination with Social Behavior Change Communication and a robust learning and inclusion agenda. To institutionalize climate resilience in water supply, SNV will emphasize water safety, source protection, and infrastructure resilience and build communities’ resilience by highlighting Gender Equality and Social Inclusion.
