Using AI and data innovations for improving water reuse in Mexico
This project will build a unique platform powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Earth observation, and data analytics to support government agencies, utility managers and water users, in assessing the potential for recovering lost wastewater and reusing for agriculture, industry, and environment sectors. The tool will generate spatially explicit, high-resolution data for present and future scenarios on:
1. Wastewater availability for new use, and
2. Water sectoral demands (including agriculture, industries, and the natural environment).
The tool will also analyze the potential to recover wastewater that is lost unproductively and reuse it for different sectors, based on the economic distance to treatment plants, quantity and quality of the effluents generated, and the specific water requirements from the sectors.
