Javier Mateo-Sagasta, Senior Researcher at IWMI Sri Lanka, says the study addressed a gap in research in quantifying the broader health impacts of floods, as opposed to those related to injury and drowning, water pollution, or the spread of infectious diseases. Mateo-Sagasta told SciDev.Net that it will be essential to adapt to increasingly frequent and intense floods and mitigate the health risks.
