Throughout this eight-episode series, you will travel across the globe from India to Colombia and beyond. Episode one invites Series Producer, NPS Initiative co-lead, and International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Principal Researcher, Alan Nicol, and Senior Scientist at Alliance of Biodiversity and CIAT, Augusto Castro-Nuñez, to address the importance of policy coherence and explore different regional experiences with food, land, and water systems.

Episode one uncovers how Policy Pathways responds to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 17.14.1 “Measuring policy coherence.” This indicator emphasizes the need for a long-term vision and integration of economic, social, and environmental policies at different levels. As Nicol identifies in this episode, “incoherent policies can cause you to work against yourself as a society to implement significant change in sustainable development, poverty reduction, or food security.”

Nicol hopes that exploring the capacity of the policy coherence reports — published through the CGIAR Initiative on National Policies and Strategies — to initiate a global analysis of coherence will trigger a debate around the need for greater policy coherence and help the public understand the myriad of development challenges and reflect on their personal situation.

Join hosts Chhavi Sachdev and Raissa Okoi for an engaging discussion on the power of policy coherence to inform sustainable development in Policy Pathways episode one. Keep an eye out for episode two, India’s Policy Pathways, which will be released on February 21, 2024.
